However, I only do this because Coldplay have become pretty much one of the biggest bands on the planet right now.

You may be wondering why I’ve been judging the album in terms of how well it would suit an arena tour, after all the record itself is certainly more important than the tour. I can certainly envisage an arena full of Coldplay fans slowly swaying along to tracks such as ‘Everglow’, ‘Amazing Day’ and, one of my favourite songs, ‘Fun’. ‘AHFOD’ differs because it is a feast of tracks that provide perfect interludes and ethereal moments that will be perfect for the band’s upcoming 2016 tour. However, the major difference between this album and the one before it is that ‘Ghost Stories’ was filled with songs that I would actually feel kinda disappointed at if they did play them at a gig – they could be using the time to play their more beloved songs. ‘AHFOD’ is certainly not an album of big arena tracks, although the first single from the record, ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’, is definitely an exception to this rule – evident by the performances that the band have already done of the track. It has been reported and hinted at by front man, Chris Martin, that this could be Coldplay’s final piece of music for quite some time (damn, that 1D ‘hiatus’ thing is really catching on!) Bearing this in mind, you really get the sense that the band decided to just make this record a culmination of sounds that they’ve wanted to experiment and just have fun with – this makes it a delight to listen to. Hang on, I’m tapping my feet to a Coldplay CD – this can’t be right, surely?!Īnd yet, this updated but still highly recognisable sound for the band is very much a welcome one.

Yet, rather than the typical haunting lyrics that we Coldplay fans often expect from the band, the track rather ascends into something that can only be described as cheeriness.

The intro actually has a familiar sound to that of ‘Violet Hill’. The doom and gloom of ‘Ghost Stories’ is long gone and has been followed by, arguably, Coldplay’s most upbeat and youthful sounding album to date – ‘A Head Full of Dreams’įrom the moment you hit play on Track 1 you have a moment of hesitation of what this record is going to be like.
